A estação meteorológica está localizada na cidade das Caldas da Rainha, 70Km a norte de Lisboa e a 5km do mar.

Caldas da Rainha é uma cidade com cerca de 30.343 habitantes (2012) no seu perímetro urbano, sendo por isso a segunda maior cidade do Distrito de Leiria, pertencente à sub-região do Oeste, região Centro e integra a Região de Turismo do Oeste.
É sede de um município com 255,7 km² de área e 51.729 habitantes (2011), subdividido em 12 freguesias. A densidade demográfica é de 200 hab/km².
Caldas da Rainha está perto do mar e tem um clima temperado e marítimo. Especificamente e segundo a classificação de Köppen e Geiger, o clima é mediterrânico temperado do tipo "Csb", ou seja: "clima com temperatura máxima no mês mais frio abaixo dos 18°C; nos três meses mais frios temperaturas mínimas acima de -3°C; nos quatro meses mais quentes temperaturas sempre superiores a 10°C e temperaturas médias sempre inferiores a 22°C".
A temperatura média anual é de 15.5°C. O mês mais quente é Agosto, com uma temperatura média de 20ºC (méd máx = 24ºC e méd mín = 16ºC). O mês mais frio é Janeiro com uma temperatura média de 11ºC (méd máx = 14ºC e méd mín = 8ºC). A pluviosidade média anual é de 696 mm sendo o mês de Novembro o mais chuvoso com 113 mm.

About the location of the station

The weather station is located in Caldas da Rainha, ("Queen's Bath" in english), 70Km north of Lisbon and 5Km from the sea

It is a small town with 32.000 inhabitants, in the middle of very green fields all year long (forest/agriculture), and is known for it's thermal hospital, for the local ceramics and specially for it's daily local fruit and vegetable street market and also for an excelent fresh fish market.
We have a fantastic unpoluted weather, with very mild and humid winters and fairly cool and dry summers. I would dare to say it is probably, one of the best climates in Europe!
According to Köppen and Geiger classification, the climate is of type Warm-summer mediterranean climate "Csb".
This subtype of the mediterranean climate (Csb), "is the less common form of the mediterranean climate. Cool ocean current and upwelling are often the reason for this milder mediterranean climate. Regions with this Csb climate, experience warm (but rarely hot) and dry summers, with no average monthly temperatures above 22 °C (72 °F) during its warmest month. During its coldest month the max temperature does not exceed 18ºC and doesn't drop below -3ºC (64 to 27°F). Also, at least four months of the year must have an average temperature above 10 °C (50 °F). Winters are rainy and can be mild to fresh. In very rare instances, snow can fall on these areas. Precipitation occurs in the colder seasons, but there are a great number of clear sunny days even during the wetter seasons".
Caldas da Rainha has an average annual temperature of 15.5°C. The warmest month is August, with a monthly average temperature of 20ºC (average of max temp = 24ºC and average of min temp = 16ºC). The coldest month is January with a monthly average temperature of 11ºC (average of máx temp = 14ºC and average of min temp = 8ºC). Average annual precipitation is 696 mm, beeing November the rainiest month with 113 mm.
